Assembly Instructions
Parts are highlighted in red
Part P1: Arm
1. Use saw (T2) to cut and shape Popsicle sticks (M3) into nine two-inch segments and 2 one inch segments.
2. Glue (S1) the two-inch segments into 3 stacks of 3 and the 1 inch segments into 2 stacks of 2.
3. Using the sandpaper (S9), sand the edges of each segment to the correct angle for the arm (shown below)
4. Use glue (S1) to complete arm assembly
Part P2: Steering Mechanism
1. Using saw (T1), cut a notch 1’’ deep into the ends of two dowels (M1). Slip a Popsicle stick (M3) into each. Affix with glue (S1).
2. Cut off ends of dowels (M1) so they are 1’’ shorter than TOV
3. Use drill (T3) to hollow out 4 ½ in. segments of dowel (M1) and glue (S1) to the each end of both Popsicle sticks (see fig. 4 below).
4. Using saw (T1), cut two 6’’ lengths of dowel (M1). Cut two more ½ in. height segments of smaller diameter dowel and glue to the ends of 6’’ segments. Assemble hinge joint as shown
above (fig.4 ).
Part P3: Wheels
1. Obtain four spools (S3) and use clay (M2) to shape ridges around diameter of each.
2. Cover wheel surfaces in electrical tape (M5), being careful to follow contours of ridges with tape.
3. Use drill (T3) to drill a shaft through each wheel
4. Slide wheels onto two 7’’ sections of dowel (M1). Slide gear (S10) onto middle of rear dowel and glue (S1) in place.
7. Leave front wheels free-rolling, glue (S1) back wheels to dowel (M1).
Part P4: Propeller
1. Use plastic propeller (S4) to mold a clay replica with similar shape. Allow clay (M2) to dry.
2. Affix propeller to 2 in. section of dowel (M1).
3. Slide gear (S10) onto propeller shaft and glue (S1) in place.
Part P5: Motor mount axeles
1. Cut two 6’’ sections of dowel (M1).
2. Attach two motors (S2) to the dowels
3. Attach one spool to one of the dowels(S3).
Part P6: Pulley assembly
1. Using glue (S1), affix magnet (S7) to fishing hook (S6)
2. Attach string (S5) to magnet/hook assembly
Assembly Procedures
1. Attach arm (P1) to first mounting axel (P5) and affix to hull as shown in image.
2. Place steering system (P2) into slots in hull
3. Slide wheel axels (P3) into hull grooves
4. Wrap pully string around arm spool and hang pulley (P6) from arm slots
5. Attach propeller shaft (P4) to rear section of steering mechanism (P2) using glue (S1).
